Drunk Asshole On a Horse by Sean L. Corbin

Brown children are ripped from their brown
parents     a pale man in black robes rides
an empty keg to the top of a mountain
of violated women     shots ring out
in produce aisles and temples

sometimes you’d rather be a coyote
chewing tobacco     a cockroach in a bag
of cornmeal     a fly vomiting on a wedding cake
a copperhead in a punch bowl     lice in a child’s
ponytail    than a man under this acidic sky

and you see that straw-haired rabid dog on CNN
stomping across an eagle’s nest like a drunk asshole
on a horse     claiming a crown of roses as the rest
of the world chases him with handcuffs     their feet incased
in concrete     a bugle blaring toward an infield on fire

there is an animal inside your chest     a beaten
and bloodied dog     flinching with every breath
