Starting Over by Clint Carroll

Today is the day
I get right with the Lord
And you and me
In patterned finery
Will float down the river
Many-armed and sun-dappled
Until the evening comes
And calves its trillion stars
To the call of Ralph Stanley
And the hum of the sawtooth hills

Clint Carroll is a writer and physician currently living in Jackson, Mississippi. He spent over a decade of his adult life in Tennessee where he fell in love with the literature of the American South and Appalachian culture. His poems have appeared in Appalachian Journal and Still: The Journal.
